Important Central Oregon USASA Updates

28 Sep 2023 by Adam Brown - Central Oregon USASA

Hey COUSASA Family! Winter is on the horizon and we’re pumped! We wanted to share a few important updates (so please read this in its entirety), and also let you know that we’re already discussing dates with mountains, and putting check marks next to all the behind the scenes “to-do’s.” Carey and I also got our tickets to fly to the annual USASA Summit in November (in Maine). ✔️ So stay tuned since there’s a big push this year to try and have all the USASA Series’ event dates ready for a national launch on November 1st!🤞🏽

1.) MEMBERSHIP: USASA Early Bird Membership Discounts expire Oct. 1, 2023. More details about each age group, costs and membership are here: https://usasa.org/members/pricing. [BTW – Rascals and Ruggies (8 & under) still get FREE membership!]

2.) VOLUNTEERS: We’re looking to have another awesome year, but to do this, we need your help (5-10 volunteers), and we’d love to start hearing from you parents, family and friends who are interested in making a difference. There are always some “perks” besides the six figures we “pay” (S.M.I.L.E.S.). 😉 As a nonprofit, we’re almost 100% volunteer based (besides judges), and we do this to build into the youth, family, community, and snow sports…and we can’t do it without you! We have all kinds of areas you can assist with from organizing medals and swag, to bringing up meals day-of to the team on-course, to assisting with our online rider’s meeting raffles, being a starter, start area monitor or finisher at comps, tabulate scores (training for this), help us pick up swag for events, fundraise, or rover day-of…to name a few things. If you want to step it up even more and want to discuss helping me on-course, and maybe get certified with USASA and help run an event with me, just let me know…the more the merrier! We love to train and build into this every year! “All of us is more than one of us!”

3.) FUNDRAISNG + DONATIONS: Things keep getting tighter each year financially, and although we run a lean machine, costs continue to go up (whether it’s the hill fees we pay, replacing or repairing gear, judges, etc.), so we’d love for you to consider who you know that can donate to the cause. We also strive to keep our event costs as affordable as possible (check out the costs out there and you’ll see we’ve been pretty low for the past decade+), and we’d prefer to not have to continue to raise event fees, so the more we can fundraise, the better this is for everyone. A goal we’ve always had since I took over almost 10 years ago, is we never want a kid to not compete because of lack of funds. Did you know we average between 5-10 scholarships per event day, as well as being one of a few series that opts to offer FREE events to our younger members to get them stoked? It’s all about the kids. So whether it’s a local business or someone that would like to join us in building into our series, kids and families…we can take a look at the product or services (that’d pertain) and funds. They’re all potentially important and helpful! We have a sponsorship packet with different levels we’re finalizing, and can send to any interested parties. We promote our supporters in a variety of ways, usually reaching several hundred thousand a year…so can you help us get more sponsorship partners? As a 501c3, it’s tax deductible, and it’s something that helps our series be as strong and cool as it is (between the volunteers + support + swag)! Do you run or work at a business, or have the funds and would like to contribute to the cause? Some ways we thank our partners for their support, depending on the level they choose: Social media promo, flags on course, logos on social media and event covers, mentions at comps and our online Zoom calls, share-time on our riders meetings, at awards, on our app in multiple areas…to name a few. Thank you so much for the assistance so we can keep this ship not just afloat, but moving forward!

We appreciate you and can’t wait to shred together this year! Please let us know if there’s any interest in helping out this season, ideas on fundraising, if you can help in any areas, as well as if you have any questions…
